Do you want to do something here? Reach out!

Dreamers Welcome is open to artists looking for a place to dream, create, and crash. We see an ever-increasing need for local artists to find space to work and visiting artists to find a place to stay while in town for a reading, show, or event. Feel free to reach out and contact us if you:

  1. Are a local artist looking for space to work on a project. Pitch us your ideas, your needs, your timelines. We’ve hosted artists who need a place to sit and think for a few hours to musicians who wrote a full album in our living room. Stipulate any tools you might need or will bring with you (we have a robust amount of art supplies and recording equipment for use). Dreamers Welcome works best for those looking for short-term studio space (up to two weeks).

  2. Are a local artist looking to expand your arts education toolkit, create arts curricula, and/or interested in professional development. Sarah Conarro, who heads The Painted Cloud, has over 15 years of experience in arts education and can assist in spitballing, project development, and implementing arts education for pre-K to high school level students.

  3. Are a visiting artist looking for a place to crash. Dreamers Welcome offers a limited number of Crash Pad Residencies throughout the year. We know it can be cost-prohibitive to find a hotel or short-term rental in NYC these days. That’s why Dreamers Welcome hosts artists in town for a show, event, or reading of their work. As a Crash Pad Resident, you will be sharing a live/work space with artists Sarah Conarro and Julian Bozeman, their two teenage children, and their four cats. Residencies are offered for 1-3 night stays and include linens, towels, room in the fridge for a small amount of groceries, and a place to sleep in a private queen suite or on a roomy couch.

Policies and Protocols

updated 2024

Dreamers Welcome is a mixed-use work space. We host artists and musicians for the creation of new works. We also host artists and musicians etc in a hostel-style place-to-stay for people coming to NYC for a project or performance. We understand NYC is an expensive place to stay. We offer our space as a haven for artists-on-a-budget pursuing a creative goal in a city they otherwise couldn’t afford to visit. We save artists thousands on lodging, in exchange for them following the simple protocols below:

PROTOCOLS:

  • SAFETY - We have a zero tolerance policy for rudeness, harassment, unwanted touch, discrimination, and aggressive behavior. Be cool or we will kick you out.

  • WAKE UP POLICY - Keep in mind, we have a strict policy that the space shifts from a sleep/sleep environment to a live/work environment at 9am sharp. If you are not working in the space, we ask that you vacate during work hours to make the environment a better work space for others. ‘What is “work”?’ you may ask…drawing, painting, comp work, vibing, brainstorming, reading, writing, etc.

  • FOOD IN THE KITCHEN - …and nowhere else! Our cats will eat your food. Neighborhood roaches will infest our house. Local rats will call themselves “Dreamers” and ruin it for everyone.

  • SOCIAL MEDIA - Every Dreamer MUST post to instagram (stories are fine!) and tag @dreamerswelcomeforever. Expect us to photo/video you for our social media account. Social media has been the grease that keeps the wheel turning and keeps our space alive and well and accessible for anyone needing a place to stay, through grants AND simply spreading the word.

  • PROVIDE - If you’re staying for 5+ days, please provide 1 roll of paper towels and 1 roll of toilet paper per week per Dreamer.

  • SPACE CLEAN - Clean up after yourself! No dishes in the sink, no personal items outside of your area (see “Dreamers Nooks” below).

  • BATHROOM - We have one full bathroom. Please be mindful of time occupying the bathroom. In the communal area of the building, there are half bathrooms if you need to take your time.

  • BEDDING + TOWELS - Before you leave, wash/dry your towels & bedding, fold your towels, and remake your bed. Two options to accomplish this: 1.) $10 + 2 hours to DIY with the building washer/dryer. 2.) $30 and we take care of it after you leave. Even if you bring your own sleeping bag, the fee remains because we put a base sheet and pillow cases for wherever you sleep.

  • DON’T LOSE YOUR KEYS -  $100 fee for lost keys.

  • SHOW LOVE - Does the trash need to go out? Take it out! Don’t mind scooping a litter box? Great, thanks! Do you have a show? Put us on the list! Want to make us dinner? Good I’m hungry!

WHAT YOU GET:

  • DREAMERS NOOKS - We provide two 18” cubes for storing your belongings. Please only bring enough items that can fit in the nook, as your suitcase will be stowed out of reach.

  • KITCHEN - You are welcome to use our fridge and we will provide some space in our pantry for your personal food items. You are welcome to use our kitchen to prepare food + coffee.

  • BEDDING + TOWEL - We will provide bedding and one towel per Dreamer.

  • SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS - We have a queen-sized bed and 3 couches.

  • WORK SPACE - We provide you with a work surface for the duration of your stay if requested ahead of time. We have wifi.

  • TOOLS - We have different tools and resources available for you while you are working in our space. We have video equipment, a small shop, audio equipment, light table, paper cutter, etc. Please let us know ahead of time if you would like to use these tools or other tools that we might have but didn’t list.

  • ROOF - We have a great roof and you’re welcome to chill there … while respecting our neighbors.

  • LAUNDRY - We have laundry facilities shared between tenants in our building conveniently located in the basement of our building. Each wash+dry=$5. You may use this at your will.

The long and short: We are a family and we love doing this. Recognize and reduce your impact, follow the protocols, don’t become a job for us, be nice and have fun as much as possible!
